The Executive Committee of the Utah Freedom Memorial met today and voted on the final venue site for the monument. This is a momentous occasion for this Utah State monument project. Over the past two years, the committee has presented the project to eleven potential site candidates, ranging from Liberty Park in SLC to Thanksgiving Point in Lehi.
The four finalists were:
Ft. Douglas
West Jordan City Memorial Park
Southtowne Expo Center
Sandy City promenade
The voting resulted in the Sandy City promenade location being selected as the winner. Congratulations to Sandy City!
Of note, Sandy City is the official population center of the State of Utah.


17 February 2009 - Entry 22
Today members of the UFM executive committee met with Tom Dolan, Mayor of Sandy City and some of his city staff including the Parks Director, Nancy Shay.
Many questions about the monument were asked by city officials. Both the UFM scale model and color rendering were on display. The location Sandy City is offering for the monument is the south end of the city’s promenade green space which is directly south of city hall.
All of the Sandy City people were encouraged about having Sandy City being considered as one of the venue finalist’s for the Utah Freedom Memorial project.
Mayor Dolan will present the project to the city council tonight and report back to UFM officials as to their decision.

The UFM committee was invited to present the monument project to the West Jordan City Council Tuesday evening.
Eight council members and Mayor Newton all voted ‘yes’ to placing the Utah Freedom Memorial in their new Veterans Memorial Park. When their park was dedicated, Major General Tarbet of the Utah National Guard, called West Jordan the most patriotic city in the state of Utah… Craig Dearing, President of the West Jordan Chamber of Commerce, took the lead in inviting the UFM group to present the monument project to the city officials.
The West Jordan City venue makes a total of ten possible locations for the monuments final resting site.
